MLB releases final 2016 All-Star Game fan voting update before teams are picked

One week from Tuesday, Major League Baseball will announce the starters and reserves for the 2016 All-Star Game. Here's how you can watch the announcement. The All-Star Game will be played July 12 in San Diego.
Monday afternoon the league released the final fan voting update for the All-Star Game starters in both leagues. Nothing has changed from last week, which means the Cubs are still dominating the NL vote while the Red Sox do the same in the AL. Here's the AL voting update:
alasgupdate062716.jpg

The closest race is in the outfield, where Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain is fewer than 100,000 votes behind Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts for the final spot. Royals backstop Salvador Perez remains the leading vote-getter among all players, by a lot too.where to buy cheapest sports jerseys with free shipping
Now here is the NL update:
nlasgupdate062716.jpg
The entire Cubs infield remains on track to start the game. They all have fairly large leads too. The closest race by far is behind the plate; Cardinals backstop Yadier Molina holds a mere 5,130 vote lead (!) over Buster Posey of the Giants. A late push from the San Francisco faithful could get Posey into the All-Star Game starting lineup.
The 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot -- available exclusively via MLB.com, team sites and mobile devices -- will be accessible through June 30, at which point this phase of the voting will end.

Skal Labissiere after fall to Kings at 28: 'God has a plan for me'

The Suns drafted Kentucky's Skal Labissiere with the No. 28 pick of Thursday's NBA draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Labissiere is headed to the Kings as part of the reported trade in which Sacramento dealt the No. 8 pick in the draft, used to select Washington’s Marquese Chriss, for Bogdan Bogdanovic, the No. 13 pick and the No. 28 pick. amynfljerseys.ru   amynfljerseys.ru

Labissiere is coming off his freshman season at Kentucky, where he averaged 6.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.3 assists.

NEW YORK — In the class of 2015, two prep prospects topped the rankings of just about every recruiting service. One was Australian-born, Florida-based playmaking forward Ben Simmons, whose do-everything point forward game elicited comparisons to LeBron James and Lamar Odom. The other was Haitian-born, Memphis-based 7-footer Skal Labissiere, a tantalizing toolkit projected as "the fever dream of the modern NBA GM, a big man who can both shoot from the perimeter and block shots."

After an up-and-down year at LSU, Simmons' stock remained high enough that the Philadelphia 76ers made him the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NBA draft on Thursday night. After an up-and-down year at Kentucky, Labissiere had to sit, stew and wait until near the end of the first round to hear his name called, going to the Sacramento Kings with the 28th pick, which Vlade Divac and company picked up in an earlier draft-night trade with the Phoenix Suns.cheap nba jerseys
It was a somewhat stunning fall for a player who — despite averaging just 6.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 15.8 minutes per game during his lone year in Lexington, being dinged for struggling with contact and lacking the strength to bang with other 7-footers — was still pegged as a top-10 pick by Jonathan Givony of The Vertical, and invited with his family to the green room at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, a spot typically reserved for players expected to go in the lottery. (It was not, however, the most precipitous such plummet; Michigan State big man Deyonta Davis, projected as the No. 10 pick by DraftExpress, fell all the way out of the first round, going to the Memphis Grizzlies with the 31st overall selection, the first of the second round.)amynfljerseys.ru    cheap nba jerseys
"It was tough at first," Labissiere told reporters during his post-draft press conference. "But one thing about the league — one thing about all of us now — everything starts over for all of us. We all start over once we get to [the NBA] level. I'm excited to get to work. I know I have a bright future ahead of me."
Throughout Labissiere's long, long night, his green-room companion and college coach, Hall of Famer John Calipari — whose Kentucky program produced two more first-rounders this year, bringing the total to 21 since he took over the Wildcats in 2009 — tried to keep the 20-year-old's spirits up.

"[He kept saying] just that, 'You're good. You're going to be fine. You should use that as fuel to get better,'" Labissiere said. "He told me how good I was."

But despite Calipari's salesmanship and Labissiere's tantalizing measurables, the sheer lack of productivity during his freshman season — he scored fewer than 10 points in all but two games over a 2 1/2-month span from mid-December through late-February — ultimately seemed to scare prospective suitors away on Thursday.
“I think he’s the most difficult prospect to figure out in this whole draft for me because he’s got some really solid selling points," ESPN analyst Jay Bilas said, according to Kyle Tucker of SECCountry.com. "He’s got an excellent shooting touch, his timing is good, he can block shots. But he didn’t do it in games, and he got pushed around by guys that got pushed around by other people. That was a little bit surprising to me, frankly.”

His selection, then, is an upside play — a gamble that, eventually, Labissiere's soft touch and shot-blocking will pair with increased bulk and an improved understanding of the game to produce a player capable of fulfilling the promise of that five-star high-school rating. It's a bet that he's going to put in the work to see the results, and that the difficulty holding up against more physical competition doesn't belie a lack of toughness.cheap nba jerseys

How exactly Labissiere fits into the plans of the Kings — who, as we discussed earlier Thursday, already employ a robust big-man rotation featuring All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins, 2015 lottery pick Willie Cauley-Stein, 2015 free-agent signing Kosta Koufos and 2016's No. 13 overall pick, 7-foot-2 Greek teenager Giorgios Papagiannis — remains to be seen. For now, though, Labissiere seems content to take his slide in stride, to rely on his skills and work ethic to find a way to earn opportunities under new Kings head coach Dave Joerger, and to view his arrival in Sacramento — a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 10 years — as a blessing rather than a curse.amynfljerseys.ru
"At first, I was a little nervous, but after a while, it was just — I was excited about the whole thing," Labissiere said. "I know that God has a plan for me and that I was going to fall into the right place, right team."
Before the draft, he said he "firmly [believes] that two, three years from now, maybe five years from now, I can be the best player in this draft because of my skillset.” After a night that could've shaken any young man's self-confidence, Skal Labissiere remained resolute.amynfljerseys.ru   cheap nba jerseys

"I still believe it," he said Thursday night. "I'm about to go to work, and I'm going to control what I can control."

Bauer, Kipnis lead Indians to 6-1 win over Rays

CLEVELAND -- Trevor Bauer doesn't think going the distance should be rare for a starting pitcher.amynfljerseys.ru
Cleveland's right-hander threw a three-hitter for his second career complete game and the Indians defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1 on Wednesday night for their sixth straight win.
"I feel like every time I go out there that's what I should be doing," Bauer said. "I should be throwing nine so when I'm actually able to accomplish that, it's a good night."amynfljerseys.ru
Bauer (5-2) struck out 10, walked one and allowed only one runner past second base. It was the second straight three-hitter for the Indians, following Corey Kluber's in a 6-0 win over the Rays on Tuesday.
Jason Kipnis' homer highlighted a three-run first inning off Chris Archer (4-10). Carlos Santana drove in two runs while Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor also had RBI.where to buy cheapest sports jerseys with free shipping
Cleveland leads the AL Central and has won 11 straight at Progressive Field. The Indians are also 11 games over .500 (41-30).
"Guys are having fun," Bauer said. "Guys are playing well, which contributes to the fun. Hopefully we can keep it going."
Corey Dickerson drove in the only run for Tampa Bay, which has lost seven straight.mlb shop   mlb jerseys  mlb jerseys
The win capped a big day for Cleveland, which hosted a parade for the Cavaliers winning the NBA title. Hundreds of thousands of fans jammed downtown for the festivities to celebrate Cleveland's first championship in any major sport since 1964.amynfljerseys.ru           mlb shop    mlb shop     mlb shop
One fan took the celebration too seriously in the seventh when he ran on the field from the third base stands and headed toward center field. He scaled the 9-foot high wall, raced up the steps and disappeared into the crowd before being grabbed by security.
The Indians completed a 6-0 homestand, which included three-game sweeps of the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay, but manager Terry Francona isn't putting a lot of stock in the hot stretch.
"Part of that streak was three weeks ago," he said. "If we play good we give ourselves a chance. If we don't we give the other team a better chance."
The Rays have matched a season-worst eight games under .500 (31-39). The best news for manager Kevin Cash is his team is off Thursday and has a chance to regroup.amynfljerseys.ru
"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "I don't know what the players are saying, but I certainly am looking forward to it and if that helps us reset, that's OK."
Bauer took a one-hitter into the seventh. Brad Miller walked to lead off and took third on Logan Morrison's double. Miller scored on Dickerson's ground ball to deep short, but Morrison rounded too far past third and was thrown out by Lindor.
Santana had an RBI double in the fourth and a run-scoring single in the seventh.
Archer, who allowed four runs in six innings, has lost six of his last seven starts.

TITLE TOWN
The Indians saluted the Cavaliers with highlights on the Progressive Field scoreboard. Confetti from the parade floated into the ballpark before the game, causing the grounds crew to clear it from the field. Players from the Indians and Rays were allowed to report to the ballpark later than they usually do because downtown was jammed with cars and pedestrians into the late afternoon.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Rays: Cash said INF Steve Pearce (strained right hamstring) could be out longer than two weeks. Pearce was injured Monday and placed on the 15-day DL.
Indians: Brantley will be shut down for a few days after receiving a cortisone shot Tuesday. Brantley had surgery on his right shoulder in November and is also dealing with right biceps tendinitis.

Not so fast, Pittsburgh: San Jose Sharks force NHL final to Game 6 with 4-2 win over Penguins

Goaltender Martin Jones of the San Jose Sharks denied Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby from close in during Game 5 action in the NHL Stanley Cup Final Thursday in Pittsburgh. Jones made 44 saves as the Sharks posted a 4-2 victory to extend the series to Game 6 on Sunday in San Jose.
ITTSBURGH — Not so fast, Pittsburgh.
That was some demonstration of civic love and anticipation outside the Consol Energy Center and blocks in any direction Thursday night — tens of thousands of fans flooding the streets, gathering around big screens, ready to celebrate the Penguins’ Stanley Cup.
But the San Jose Sharks evidently didn’t get the memo.sports kit  sports kit  sports kit
The Californians showed an annoying lack of understanding of the script, a total disregard for the spirit of the thing.

Sometime between crawling out of California down 3-1 in games and suiting up for Game 5 in decidedly enemy territory, the Sharks must have figured out that it would be interesting to see what happened if they scored the first goal.
Now they know.
An early 2-0 lead didn’t last long, but they got the lead back late in the first period and then rode the otherworldly goaltending of Martin Jones to a 4-2 victory that sends the Cup final back to San Jose for Game 6 on Sunday.
Now, though only one of 33 teams to trail a Cup final 3-1 has ever rebounded to win the series, the Sharks get a chance to be the second.
They’ll need to win on home ice Sunday to earn a trip back to Pennsylvania for Game 7 next Wednesday.
The Sharks had not led for one second of the series — their Game 3 victory was in overtime — until the bearded guy from Duck Dynasty, Brent Burns, skated out from behind the net, turned and fired short side on Matt Murray, 64 seconds into the game.
Barely a minute-and-a-half later, the Sharks sent the packed house into shock when playoff scoring leader Logan Couture, who hadn’t managed a goal yet in the final, deflected Justin Braun’s waist-high point shot past Murray for a 2-0 lead.

Three shots, two goals, two scoring slumps busted. And a blow to Murray’s confidence.
A puck-over-the-glass penalty to Dainius Zubrus changed that. Evgeni Malkin scored at 4:44 on the power play, his intended pass banking in off Braun’s skate, and 22 seconds later, a weak turnover by Sharks defenceman Brenden Dillon handed the puck to Nick Bonino, whose hopeful shot at the net was redirected by Carl Hagelin on Martin Jones’s doorstep, tying the game 2-2.
Now, it was deafening inside the Pens’ home palace, and if not for both Phil Kessel and Chris Kunitz rifling shots off the iron behind Jones within 10 seconds of one another on another power play, the Penguins could have led 4-2 before the 10-minute mark.
In addition to the crossbar, Kessel, who had set up Malkin’s goal, missed a couple of open-net chances and still the Pens looked all set to run away with the game.
But with five minutes left in the period, Couture — who may have skated and passed and shot his way right into the Conn Smythe Trophy discussion — made a lovely between-the-legs backhand pass right onto the stick of Melker Karlsson, whose weak shot was fumbled into the net by Murray.
It was the third goal he surrendered on just six shots, not exactly what the City of Pittsburgh had in mind when it named a street for him for a day.
At the other end, Jones was … well, what’s the word just past eye-popping?

The Penguins poured everything they had at the San Jose net, but between goalposts, crossbars, fanning on chances and Jones fighting for every puck that came near him — much like his old L.A. mentor, Jonathan Quick — the Sharks held on despite being badly outshot (46-22) and out-chanced.

“We needed some big-game performances from a few guys and Jonesy was one of those guys,” said Sharks coach Pete DeBoer.
Joe Pavelski, another of the stars who hadn’t scored all series for the Sharks, sealed it with an empty-netter.

They spent four games waiting for their big guns to start firing, and despite that, they had managed to keep the games close, waiting only for someone to lead them out of the offensive woods against a Penguins team that always seemed to be a step ahead in both offensive and defensive zones.

The leisurely pace of the schedule — with three-day gaps between Games 2 and 3, and every game after Game 4 — may have finally paid off for the bigger, heavier and older Sharks.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. The elimination game is always the most difficult. We knew it going in,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said.

“I thought our team as a whole was a little unsettled at the beginning of the game, but we settled in fast. I thought we had traffic, pucks to the net, we had people there, rebound opportunities, we couldn’t seem to find that third goal.”
But then, it’s supposed to be the hardest trophy in sports to win, the Stanley Cup.

The Penguins, unable to close the deal with a whole city holding its breath, waiting to explode, are doing their best to burnish that legend just a little more.

Crosby, Kessel and several surprise choices among Top 5 Conn Smythe candidates

While Phil Kessel (21 points in 22 games) has led Pittsburgh in scoring this postseason, Sidney Crosby's numbers (six goals, 17 points) don't tell the whole story of his impact during the playoffs.
PITTSBURGH -- Lord Stanley's famous silver cup will be in the building when the Pittsburgh Penguins host the San Jose Sharks for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals Thursday night. Whether the Cup gets out of its box that night is another story, but history suggests that at some point in the coming days the Penguins will be rewarded with their fourth Stanley Cup -- and with it, one of their players will be honored with the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the playoffs.cheap replica jerseys   cheap replica jerseys

While there have been other difficult decisions over the past decade -- Chicago's wins in 2010 and 2013 provided a stern challenge to voters, as did Anaheim's in 2007 -- this year's vote will be among the most challenging for the writers and hockey experts who determine the Conn Smythe winner.where to buy cheapest sports jerseys with free shipping
The issue isn't a lack of worthy candidates. It's just the opposite. There are too many. The Penguins are the poster boys for the value of depth: Defenseman Ian Cole scored the first goal of Game 4 and became the 16th different Penguin to score during this playoff run.
Ten different players have netted game-winning goals this spring for Pittsburgh, and the heroes have ranged from the obvious -- such as Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel -- to the virtually unknown in rookies Bryan Rust, Conor Sheary andMatt Murray.
How will the MVP conundrum be resolved? Here's my take on it, with my top five candidates listed in reverse order (to keep the drama building to the end):
Nick Bonino: Yes, that's right -- Nick Bonino. If the Bonino-Carl Hagelin-Kessel forward unit has been Pittsburgh's most consistent trio throughout the playoffs, producing 19 goals, then Bonino has emerged as the perfect, if unlikely, pivot for speedsters Hagelin and Kessel. He scored the overtime winner that eliminated the Washington Capitals in the second round and the game-winner in Game 1 of the finals. His 17 points have him tied with Crosby and Evgeni Malkinfor second on the team in scoring this spring. Bonino, acquired last offseason from the Vancouver Canucks, has been a key part of a Pittsburgh penalty-killing unit that has stymied the powerful San Jose power play in the finals and allowed the Penguins to move to within one win of a championship.

Kris Letang: The lone star on a defensive corps that is getting it done by committee, Letang has been a workhorse all playoffs, especially since Trevor Daley went down in the Eastern Conference finals with a broken ankle. Letang is averaging 28:50 a night in ice time and faces down opposing teams' top forward units every night. He has, on occasion, lost focus this spring and was suspended for a game during the second round for a needlessly dangerous hit on Washington's Marcus Johansson, and likely should have been suspended for whacking Viktor Stalberg in the face with his stick in the first round. Still, the Pens would be here if not for Letang's significant contributions.
Phil Kessel: There was quite a social media storm of "Kessel for Conn Smythe" talk after he notched two more assists in Pittsburgh's 3-1 victory in Game 4. It's understandable. Kessel leads the Penguins with 21 points in 22 games. He has not gone more than two games without at least a point and he has gone two games without a point once. In short, he has proven to be a clutch performer whose two-way game has been underappreciated this spring. If there is a factor that could prevent Kessel from earning enough votes to win the Conn Smythe, it's that he does not kill penalties.

Matt Murray: Think Patrick Roy in 1986 or Ken Dryden in 1971 and you have an idea of the company that Murray will join if the Penguins close out the Sharks. Murray has won a league-best 14 postseason games and sports a .925 save percentage. Murray, who turned 22 right before the finals began, has been a rock this spring, going 5-0 in games after losses, including Monday's Game 4. The Penguins have done an excellent job of limiting the number of shots Murray has faced, but he has shown the kind of mental toughness normally associated with far more experienced netminders. His performance in Games 6 and 7 of the Eastern Conference finals -- after he'd been lifted for Game 5 in favor of veteranMarc-Andre Fleury -- shows the kind of stuff from which Murray is made.

Sidney Crosby: In a crowded field, this is still a pretty clear choice. From the get-go, Crosby has set the tone for this Penguins team with his tireless commitment to detail. Although his point totals -- he has six goals and 17 points -- might not suggest the stuff of a playoffs MVP, you have to dig a little deeper to understand why he has been the best, most important player on this team.
While facing opposing teams' top players on a regular basis, Crosby might be playing the best two-way hockey of his career. Although he did go eight games without a goal this spring, Crosby rebounded to score his first playoff overtime winner and, in fact, collected three game-winning goals against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference finals. He audibled in Game 2 of the finals to help set up Sheary's overtime winner and has, along with Matt Cullen, been Pittsburgh's most effective faceoff man. I'm guessing that if Crosby's teammates had a vote, this would be a landslide in favor of the Penguins' captain

Game 1: 24 Second Thoughts

 — 24 -- What else did we expect but a soulful, stirring national anthem for Game 1 by 10-time Grammy winner John Legend? Still have to admit we're looking for LeBron Legend and Steph Legend to hit higher notes.
23 -- Revenge. Rematch. Remix. This is what you've wanted for 12 months now, Cavs. No injuries, no excuses.
22 -- Is this what they mean by Barnes-storming? Looks like Harrison Barneshas something to prove after getting bumped by Andre Iguodala in Game 7 vs. the Thunder. He's back in the starting lineup making early marks with three straight buckets.
21 -- Jitters? Remember, they've been here before. Warriors open shooting 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) and Cavs 6-for-11 (54.5) midway through the first quarter. Just one turnover apiece. This is gonna be fun.
20 -- Could there possibly be a better matchup of two players who know exactly what they're doing and how to do it than Iggy on LeBron?
19 -- If you're the Cavs, are you happy to be down just 28-24 at the end of the first quarter and have Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson held to shooting a combined 2-for-6? Or more worried about what's coming?
18 -- Matchup at the start of second quarters will be key to watch throughout the series. Bench to bench. This time Steve Kerr moves to match with Cleveland's small lineup and gets an almost instant payoff.
17 -- After a solid start, the Cavs have suddenly turned the ball over five times in the last seven minutes. Can't give the Warriors that many free chances.
16 -- Most underrated backcourt in the NBA? Could it be the Warriors' backup pair of Shaun Livingston and Leandro Barbosa?
15 -- You loved him or you hated him and you always had an opinion about him. But The Finals already aren't the same without seeing the shining bald head and snarling face of referee Joe Crawford, who retired due to injury after 39 years on the job. He officiated 50 Finals games in a career that included very few dull moments.
14 -- They can't stop LeBron from getting to the basket, but everything else about the Warriors' defense has been rock solid in building a 41-29 lead. Talk about hand-to-hand combat. Iguodala strips LeBron and Kyrie Irving on back-to-back possessions leading to a pair of fast break hoops.
13 -- Kevin Love shows up big in his first Finals game with 10 points, seven rebounds. But the most surprising stat of the first half could be J.R. Smith taking 22 minutes to get off his very first shot.
12 -- Tyronn Lue's got the item for the top of his "to-do" list on his practice white board -- "Transition defense." It's been plain horrible.
11 -- Splash Brothers? They must be around here somewhere. But we're busy being quietly dazzled by Aussie Andrew Bogut having perhaps the best playoff game of his career.
10 -- The Warriors get careless with the ball and the Cavs get it to the rim for a 7-0 run that sends Kerr reaching for a timeout and his small lineup early in the second half.
9 -- Can we say it? The Warriors continue playing far too cavalierly in third quarter and have swung the door wide open for the Cavs to take over the game.
8 -- The lob to Tristan Thompson that was underused in the first half by Cleveland makes things look too easy when the Cavs go to it.
7 -- Never mind that opening tip. Now The Finals officially begin when Matthew Dellavedova swipes down on Iguodala. Somewhere back in Oklahoma City,Steven Adams winces in pain again. Meanwhile there are babies that were born at the start of the official review entering kindergarten by the time three officials decide it's simply a personal foul.
6 -- The Warriors lead 74-68 entering the fourth quarter, but they've let the Cavs stay in it and with the firepower of James, Irving and Love, that's a dangerous thing.
5 -- And just like that the Golden State bench threatens to set Oracle on fire. Livingston and Barbosa take over in a 15-0 run -- 13 by the bench -- that blows it open for the Warriors.
4 -- Sure hope Steph and Klay are enjoying a tasty dinner somewhere in downtown San Francisco. The absent Splash Brothers should at least buy dessert for their teammates after sitting out the scoring column in the opener. Their 14 combined points are the fewest in a game all season.
3 -- Dr. Livingston, I presume? He couldn't own this game any more if he held the deed to the building. He gets a playoff career-high 20 points in 26 minutes.
2 -- LeBron finishes with a near triple-double of 23 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists. But after a fast start attacking the basket, give credit to Iguodala's defense for putting the brakes on him. Overall the Warriors' defense sparkles. Held a Cavs team that was averaging 106.9 points per game to 89.
1 -- Strength in numbers isn't just a saying on the front of the T-shirt for Golden State. Six other players score in double figures before Curry or Thompson. The Warriors bench dominates 45-10 for the 104-89 win of the opener.
